Olson Reunion 2008

Watch out Vernon here comes the Olsons!!!

Elle is in the newest fashion, a Vernon t-shirt from the 2008 Reunion

Kate just hanging out squawking at everyone.
We love the reunion with Grandpa Calvin and all his brothers and sisters in Vernon-- The "V" town as Rob calls it. Here is Rob and Grandpa Calvin Olson, Aunt Donna, his Sister, is to the left in the back.
Each year the first weekend in August is the reunion on a Friday and Saturday. Sat morning starts out with the Annual 5k race. We wont mention how many medals Rob has won winning this race but let's just say he is undefeated! Whoo hoo! :) Then out to the Olson/Nilson Cabins. The Heritage this family has is amazing. This is part of the reason I fell in love with Rob in the first place. I love his family. The bond between the masses is unbelievable. Cousins-- we are all cousins. We love it. There is a whole story of Great great Grandpa Olson that built that first cabin there and Rob and a few others are in charge of maintaining the grounds of the park around it. We eat a big breakfast after the run and then the games begin with all the cousins. There are age races. Water balloon tosses, candy hunts, water relay games and more.
Grandpa has 2 Sisters and 1 Brothers. Betty, Donna and his Brother Ferron, who has written some books about our pioneer ancestors that came from green, lush Sweden to the dry landscape of Vernon, Utah. It has it's own kind of beauty and definitely a sense of pride in the land because of the hardships and trials overcome there. It's neat. I am so happy that my kids can have that pride in their family and who they come from. Neat neat people. At the end there is a "talent show" from each siblings family and Drew got up and told a few jokes. He is quite the character. Cracks us all up! Grandpa bore his testimony about tithing this year. It was so spiritual especially after talking to everyone about the economy and the scary times we are in. Grandma Donna told a story about her Grandpa and how she knew he loved her and all of them. It was sweet.

Then we had a big potluck lunch and sat and visited. Low key and fun, love it. Here is Rob and Grandma Ruth Olson. That is the Olson cabin in the back right, it is over a 100 years old! I have more pic I will scan in later of Vernon and the cabin. Quite the legacy.

This is the house that Grandma and Gpa Olson lived in for awhile until Judy was 4! NO electricity!!
